Weekly Wrap-up: Tournment Bound
Wednesday night I got in a game against a good Ork player using my Marines. We play tested my mission Special Ops and had a good time with it. Hopefully next week I’ll get to play test Battlefield Superiority.

Weekly Pimp’n: 4th Week of February
This was another short week for me, having been gone until Monday and not back into the swing of things until Tuesday.

40K Beginners Quiz #5: Weapons
Battle Report and Special Ops Play Testing
Last night Fate’s Angels squared off against some Orks. I was happy to get the chance to try my hand at the greenskins with my Marines. I’ve been playing a lot of other Marines lately and wanted to see how my list would fair against something more numbers heavy. It was also my first chance to play test the Special Ops mission I wrote a few weeks back.

Weekly Wrap-up: Back to Normal
This past week has been busy (aren’t they all?), so not much to report. I’m on a mini-vacation with my wife to celebrate our birthdays. Yep, we both have the same birthday; same day but different year.

40K Beginners Quiz #3: Shooting Phase (Part 1)
Tips for Beginners: Measuring Distance
In my experience one of the toughest things new players to 40K encounter is dealing with distances. Unless you’re a carpenter, or some other profession that uses measurements as part of a daily routine, you aren’t going to be intimately familiar with what 24″ looks like without measuring it first. Since 40K is a game that uses measurements in pretty much every aspect of it, well you need to learn and the quicker you learn the quicker you’ll get better at the game.

Weekly Wrap-up: Always Something to Work on
I’ve finally, I think, completed the tournament software I had been creating for use the Crossroad Games. It’s pretty simple really. You add your players and create matches. It has a random match pairing feature and a point based match pairing feature to easily set up matches with a single click. It tracks the points for each match and runs a total for each player so at the end of the day it’s all there, no messing around. It also tracks paint scores and sportsmanship if being used. The cool part, as a player, is it’s all publicly accessible so you can see how you did for any tournament that was entered into the system. This software should save us a lot of time at the tournaments and get us rolling and out of there sooner.
Mission: Special Ops v1.0b
This particular mission idea I’ve been tossing around for a while. I like the idea of both players trying to accomplish something different while preventing the other from accomplishing their mission. I feel it creates a very interesting dynamic that should keep both players on their toes. That being said, since I’m writing this for tournament play at the LGS I want to try and keep it fair and as balanced as possible. A mission like this we’d probably use for round one at a tournament, not later rounds.

Campaign Report: 2,000 for Week #4
Last night was another game in our ongoing campaign. It was a standard 2,000 game with the exception of being able to shoot to other tables from your table. You had to have range to do this, which naturally limited who could even bother trying. We played capture and control with spearhead deployment. I was playing Ming and his Ultramarines and I played Fate’s Angels, my Marines.

The Dirty Win
Over the weekend I got in a game against someone at the LGS. He’s pretty new with Blood Angels, coming from Vanilla Marines, but constantly improving his skills with the help of one of the best players at the shop, who also plays Blood Angels. The game we played was seize ground with four objectives using spearhead deployment. I won the roll and opted to go second since it was an objective game and he was mostly deep striking anyway.
