Master & Apprentice: Fun Idea
My Angry Face
What I Learned from the ‘Leaked’ 6th Edition
Atypically of me I had jumped on the bandwagon and put up an article about the supposed leaked 6th edition. Now, as many thought, it appears to be completely false and you can find those debunking it in my blogroll or with a little searching. There was something I did take away from this though, the thought of a game as complicated as the leaked 6th edition was is just not for me.
Perception: Know Thyself
Year in Review on the Gaming Front
I thought it would be interesting, to me if nobody else, to make use of all the match data that I keep. I’ve played for just over five years now and have recorded every game. So, let’s see how I’ve progressed, or digressed as the case may be, over those years.
What 40K is to Me
This past November marked my 5th year of playing 40K and with the year quickly coming to a close I began thinking about what 40K is to me. I could spin this into some sort of psychology article but others have already done so better than I. Instead this will just be an honest article about me, something I rarely do.
Self-Analysis: Becoming a Better Gamer
One of the things I do a lot of with my games is analyze them to find ways to improve as a player. Most everyone does this be it the after game chat with your opponent, reviewing it turn by turn in your mind, writing up battle reports, all those things or something else entirely. Something I also do is I track my gaming record. I’ve mentioned this before but I have a page on the blog where I database every single 40K game I play and have done so since 2006 when I began playing 40K.
Kamui’s Summer Challenge 2011: Wrap-up Pictures
Well, as I mentioned in my last post I’ve not managed to paint 2000 points of Reavers by the end of summer. I did manage to get 1850 by the Standish Standoff, and I’ve been happy with the performance of what I’ve got. I did struggle in the last game against Stealthy Stealth’s orks, but my shooting rolls were horrendous so I can’t really blame the list. I also made a couple of mistakes throughout the day but I came in 11th for battle points with two wins and a loss. Here’s a few pictures of what I’ve finished, as well as the Thunderwolf Cavalry I’m working on:

Kamui’s Summer Challenge 2011: Quick update and more fluff
As summer is past, it’s high time I make a call on my summer challenge. I have to admit defeat as I have not achieved my goal of a fully painted 2000 point army. I did manage to get 1850 painted to tabletop standard in time for the Standish Standoff at XRD (my FLGS.) I’ll post a summary of my experience there and some army pics tomorrow. So I didn’t hit my goal, but at least it wasn’t a complete failure. The final crunch did force me to simplify my painting a bit which is a good approach for the average troops. A full army with a simple paint job looks a lot better than a couple of well painted models in a sea of primer.
I’ve written up the third and final chapter of the Reavers’ origin. For those of you who missed them, or just want a refresher, here are the first two parts:
Reaver Origin Chapter 1; Reaver Origin Chapter 2
And now, on to the new fluff!
Lessons Learned: Don’t Be Stupid
Played a game on Wednesday against a Daemon player I routinely face. He’s been trying to deal with Marines using null zone to learn to overcome it and he did just that. He went into the game very aggressively. We had spearhead deployment and he had first turn. I set up my parking lot of vehicles and he dropped most everything in my face. The aggressive deployment is not typical of this player. Usually he goes more mid-field which gives me a few turns to soften things up before I send in my assault units. Putting it all in my face was a smart move on his part, especially with spearhead deployment as it left me little room to disengage.

Gaming: Breaking the Mold
I play a lot of 40K and Blood Bowl and one thing is synonymous in both games, I like in your face bashy stuff. In 40K my favorite aspect of the game is close combat and in Blood Bowl it’s a good old slugfest. Something about smashing heads appeals to some primal need I have regardless of what game I’m playing. One thing I’ve learned though is to not pigeon-hole yourself into one area of a game or even a single style of gaming.
Introspection: You Didn’t Try
Those were the words I heard the other day as I playing a game of Blood Bowl against someone. The fact it was Blood Bowl is irrelevant, it just got me thinking. In this particular game he had scored in the 1st half and he kicked off to me. So, we went into the 2nd half with him up 1-0 and me kicking to him, not good odds for me.
Stagnant Blogging
Maybe it’s just me but it really seems like most blog articles I see these days are all covering the same topics over and over. I don’t mean to say they’re all writing about the same thing at once but instead rehashing age old arguments and discussions to try and put a new spin on it. Depending on the author it can work for some but most of the time I start reading them and just click away.
