Hobby: Fate Lord Monthu Complete (aka: Shrike)

A while ago I posted the WIP of Monthu, my counts-as Shrike, after I finished converting him. I finished painting him a bit ago and am finally getting around to putting up some shots of him. Some of the shots are a bit blurry but I don’t feel like setting it up again so they’ll do for now.

Here he is again before painting:

And finished:

I began playing Warhammer 40K in 2006, and have been an avid player and hobbyist since then. I have also been blogging about 40K for almost as long as I've been playing it, having started Creative Twilight in 2009.

    Awesome job!

    •  Thanks. He of course plays better now he’s painted. Some how he keeps surviving impossible odds now.

Wow, very cool man. How long did he take you?

    •  Eesh, let’s see. I spent probably 2-4 hours on conversion and sculpting work. Would have been less but I did a jump pack harness for him originally I wasn’t happy with and removed. Painting was ‘quick’ being that it’s mostly black, maybe 1.5 hours there with some of that being waiting on washes to dry.

    • Unrelated, did I email you or notify you of me nominating you for the Stylish Blogger Award? I can’t recall. If not check this thread: http://creativetwilight.com/2011/05/stylish-blogger-award/

  •  I really like his helmet and the other bone bits.

    • Thanks.

Being that he’s a Fate Lord for my army (fluffy explanation can be found here: http://creativetwilight.com/librarium/fates-angels/ ), I painted him different than my normal guys. My normal guys have their entire armor painted the color of his helmet. All I do is paint it bleached bone (Vallejo paint), and wash it sepia then highlight with bleached bone and white.

      • Awesome job on the background.  Plus, the name is cool, Fate’s Angels.  A good name is pretty darn important I think.

Some of the big original chapters have pretty silly names if you think abut it to much, so I try not to (Wolves . . . in space!)

        • I appreciate it. It’s been an ongoing process over years. I’m impressed if you read it all :P

True on the names, some of them are damn silly and cliche. It is tough to create a name that is neither of those to someone.
