Well, the fun part of owning more than one army is, well, playing more than one army. I’ve been running my Orks hard for the past few months and it’s time they take a break. For the Emperor!

I’ve updated the blog to the newest version and with it comes a lot of great things. I’m in the process of setting up the theme and changing the way things look. The theme I was using was a bit intensive and I’m hoping the stock theme will work out better.

I’ve noticed over this past month that I’ve had a lot of viewers finding this site from the Crossroad’s forums. So first off, welcome and hopefully you haven’t found the mean things I’ve said about you all on the site. Just kidding…I think. Secondly, if any of you are potentially interested in contributing to this site with 40K articles then let me know. The articles would be posted by you and so you’ll get full credit for your contributions.

Week #3 – June’s Tournament

Last night was the final night for the ongoing tournament. I’m not feeling up to writing a narrative battle report so here’s the breakdown. I played two games last night. My first game was against the best Ork player at the shop, also one of the best players at the shop period. So good in fact that he’s going to ‘ard Boyz Nationals. My list was:

Week #2 – June’s Tournament

TournamentI played the second game last night of the ongoing tournament. My opponent was a Marine player, another person just getting back into the game. The mission involved six objectives, of which only three were real objectives. On turn 2, 4 and 6 you had to roll to see which objectives were legit. To get a massacre you had to have more kill points and hold more objectives and deployment was dawn of war. The mission was supposed to be night fighting the entire game but we completely forgot about it.

Feeling the urge to write up some form of battle report for the first game in the three week tournament, I wrote a narrative report that I’ve put under Stories titled My Battlewagon! I enjoy creative writing and want to get into it more so I thought this was a good way to get warmed up. Enjoy!

Tips for New Players: Avoiding Common Pitfalls

New Players - PitfallOur shop is seeing a good amount of new players, which is awesome. I really enjoy playing against new players because they have a real excitement for the game, it’s all new to them, like when you bought your first new car. I also enjoy, as crazy as this sounds, teaching new players. I’m not out to win every game I play and so I’ll point out moves to them that they are overlooking or tell them when something is a bad idea. I also let players learn by mistakes since it really is the best way to learn. Anyway, I wanted to put out there some pitfalls I see a lot of new players make and help them avoid those mistakes.

Feeling bad with so little progress the past few weeks I set out this past weekend to get things kicked back into gear. Over the weekend I finished off 5 more Tacts to complete that squad. I put some final touches on the 10 Veterans to finally have those fully complete, forgot a few highlights previously.

Regretfully I’ve not made enough progress on Joe’s stuff worth mentioning. The plan of attack is to dive in this weekend and make some true progress.

Creative Twilight is One Year Old!

One year ago I started this site promoting commission painting. In the course of a year much has changed here. In that time I’ve only done commission work for two clients, one client came back for another round, and I’m in the process of doing work for a third client. With not much to post about regarding commission work I began posting some of my 40K ramblings and have really since become hooked on it. There are a lot of great 40K blogs out there but I figured I’d try and carve myself a niche if I could. I haven’t quite gotten there yet but I’m working on it and I don’t give up easy. I have a lot to learn about blogging still and hopefully some day my writing and articles here will match my passion for 40K. Also, Kamui, who is a personal friend of mine, is posting articles here too. He hasn’t put much up yet but hopefully that will change…right, Kamui? :P

June’s 1,500 Tournament

Crossroad Games is holding a 1,500 tournament this month but it’s being done differently than usual. The store is hosting the semis for ‘ard Boyz this month and wouldn’t be able to also host the normal monthly tournament. So what they’ve decided to do is hold the normal tournament over a three week period on the normal 40K gaming night. You have to stick with your army but can change your list each week. Everything else is normal, army comp scores, painting scores, etc.

Games for Kids – Games Workshop’s Trend?

Games Workshop for KidsAllow me to rant here. I began playing 40K in the last year of 4th edition, so I had enough games under my belt to know the rules. When 5th came out it seemed the world went up in arms saying that it was designed with kids in mind, dumbed down rules and a simpler system. These are the same words that have been ushered almost any time Games Workshop decides to do a full version update. Now that Fantasy’s version update is looming I see people hoping it won’t go the way of 40K 5th and become geared towards kids, a simplified system that’s easy to learn.

Creative Writing

For the past year or a bit more I’ve been feeling the urge to do some creative writing but just can’t seem to get there. I read a lot, I mean a lot, and naturally reading great novels can be inspiring. I want to pick up a pen (figuratively speaking, of course I’d type!), and write this amazing piece of fiction that everyone would love and would in turn inspire them. For some reason though it’s all eluding me and no doubt having no background in creative writing is only making the process all the more challenging for me. I did pick up a book this month on creative writing, which has been great. It has a lot of ideas and ways to get yourself going, ways to avoid stumbling blocks, things of that nature. Maybe I should finish reading it…
