Battle Report: Chaos Unleashed

Necron ArmyI used to do battle reports in a bit of a narrative format and later went to a more blow-by-blow format, though far shorter than many other reports you’ll read. So, what the hell, let’s do this week’s report in the format I prefer. For the record, my Chaos army is named Disciples of Twilight and no, it has nothing to do with those lame ass movies.

Hobby: Chaos Concept Coming Together

Chaos IconI’ve set myself a lofty goal with my Chaos army. In November my FLGS is hosting a large tournament that is very hobby oriented and I’d love to play my Chaos army. The problem is getting all the conversions done and everything painted in about two months. I may not make it, in which case I’ll just field my Marines, but I’m going to try to push for it.

Battle Report: The True Test of Chaos

Last night I played two 1,850 games with Chaos. My first opponent was playing vanilla Marines with a Legion of the Damned army using Vulkan. He, at the recommendation of another player, was trying out Tigurius. He list featured three Drop Pods, two full of Tacts and one with Sternguard who were joined by Vulkan and Tigurius. He also had two full Legion squads. Naturally the entire list was melta heavy.

A Bit of a Break and Changing Gears

Chaos: Changing GearsWith ‘ard Boyz over, and not having qualified for regionals, it’s time to set aside my Marines for a while and focus on my Chaos army. For the past eight months I’ve played the hell out of my Marines and though I’m far from bored with them, rather the beauty of Marines if you ask me, I want to get my Chaos army on its feet.

Battle Report: The Chaos Continues

Battle Report - ChaosLast night was my fourth game with Chaos. We spent a few hours at the LGS doing terrain repair so after that we did a quick 1,500 game. Here’s what I brought along:

Terrain Repair & Daemonic Slaughter

Chaos Daemon PrinceLast night at the LGS was our first week of terrain repair. In November, details coming soon, we’ll be hosting the shop’s first ever annual 40K tournament. We do monthly tournaments but this one will be larger, have more prizes and a different format than our monthly events. In order to get ready for the event we’re repairing terrain and building some new stuff. Since we’re looking to put down 15 tables worth of stuff it’s a fair amount of work but last night we made some solid progress.

Chaos: First Game Played

Chaos - ExperimentThis past weekend I managed a small game with my Chaos Marines, yet to be named. I was playing a buddy of mine who has been in and out of the games since the tail end of 4th. We ran a 1,250 game and he was playing his 2nd game with his Tyranids. He also has Tau but recently picked up the bugs for an army that has viable assault capabilities and just plays different than Tau.

Weekly Wrap-up: A Lot Going On

Let’s dive in.

Kamui put up an article in his summer challenge series about the progress so far with his Marines by the name of Reavers, a DIY Space Wolf chapter. They’re looking good so far but he has a ways to go.

Chaos Marines: The Early Stages of a New Army

Chaos Marines - VoicesLast month I put up an article about an incredible find. As the result of that find I’m now well on my way with a new Chaos Marines army. I have a reasonable core for the army and it’s time to start considering purchases.

Lessons Learned: Campaign Report Week #3

Lessons Learned: Face PalmContinuing into week #3 for the campaign at the LGS I was paired off against a Chaos Marine player. The game was seize ground with pitched battle deployment and a few catches. First, terrain features were nominated as objectives. Second, as the defender (the Imperial side having lost last week), I had to deploy my entire army first and then the attacker got to decide if he wanted first or second turn.

Random: The Dark Gods Have Answered

Chaos - Dark GodsThis past weekend my wife and I had gone to see my in-laws. We were running around Saturday night and my wife asked to stop at Goodwill. I reluctantly agreed as I know she enjoys shopping there. I hate shopping. I’m one of those people who goes into a store to get what I want and leaves. She’s the opposite of that but she’s a big bargain shopper. The more she can save on an item the happier she is, so it could definitely be worse.

Weekly Battle: Last Practice Before Saturday’s Tournament

Battle: Alpha LegionThis Saturday is the LGS’s team tournament. It’s 1,250 per-player, random partners with a modified force org: 1 HQ, 0-1 elites, 1-3 troops, 0-1 fast attack, 0-1 heavy support. You can double up one of the 0-1 slots. This makes pairing up easier to avoid things like 4 heavies.

I’ve Got That New Army Itch

New Army ItchI’ve been seriously considering starting up a new army but haven’t nailed down what yet. To complicate the decision there’s the inevitable new Necron codex due out sooner than later but until I see it I can’t say for sure they’ll be my next investment.

Tournament: Battle for the Burbs Report

Tournament - Battle for the BurbsSaturday, March 12th, was the Battle for the Burbs, an even put on by the Dorkamorka club in Watertown, MA. It was a 1,750 tournament for 30 players, though only 24 made it, that was heavy on the soft scores. Normally I’m all about keeping soft scores out of a tournament in determining the winner but really I thought it was a nice change of pace. Sometimes you have to mix it up to keep things fresh and fun. Six of us from the LGS Crossroad Games headed down together for a kick ass day of gaming.

Weekly Wrap-up: Games and Paint

This past week was a very busy week for me on the painting front. Since wrapping up Joe’s Marines I’ve just about finished painting my Assault Squad. I just have the Sarge left and he should be done this weekend.

December 1,850 Tournament Report

Tournament: BearLet’s dive right in, shall we? So, I ran a this Shrike list I have been toying with. My first game was against ShinyRhino/Todd the Goalie. He was running a biker army with Khan in a Command Squad and a Librarian with Assault Marines. The mission was spearhead deployment with objectives placed in the unoccupied quarters. To win you needed more objectives and kill points. I got first turn and picked the quarter with a building to put my Devs in while forcing him into open terrain, though he had some walls to hide behind, which he did. I took up firing positions to be able to hit him as he came around the walls.
