Dark Angels Week of the Dreadnought

This entry is part 7 of 7 in the series Creating a Dark Angels Army

Well this week has been hectic as life usually is with kids, work and surgeons all using up my valuable hobby time. But on the plus side I now only have a week to go until I find out when I will get the surgery I have waited on for almost 5 months now and I did manage to get the first of my dreadnoughts finished.

Dark Angels: Brother Cadeus

Brother Cadeus

Pictured here is Brother Cadeus the first of the army’s dreadnoughts.  He is an Ironclad Dreadnought and is set up just now with a chainfist and a hurricane bolter.  I have also built and magnetised the close combat arm so that it can be armed with either the storm bolter or heavy flamer and the seismic hammer arm can have either the meltagun or heavy flamer.  I have also magnetised the missiles and Ironclad assault launchers so they can be put on if needed.

Dark Angels Week 6: Tau Intervene

This entry is part 6 of 7 in the series Creating a Dark Angels Army

Well after the vacation, and my post all about that, it was almost back to normal for me this week.  As I sat looking at the vast pile that was my purchases from Warhammer World and tried to decide which model to tackle next I was hit by an outstanding thought (well it was actually a nerf dart fired by No. 1 Son).  ”Daaaaaaaaaad” came the familiar call of a son about to ask me for something,  ”What is it Joe?” I replied.  ”Can you help me with some of my new models I bought?”  So being the walkover that I am I ended up spending a couple of days building Tau.

Tau: Fire Warriors

These guys are gonna be Dark Angel fodder

Now this has taught me a couple of things this week. Firstly that I cave in far to easily, but secondly that taking a break and building something different from your usual army is actually quite enjoyable and refreshing.  Now let me expand on that statement a little so that perhaps you will see what I am talking about.

Warhammer World Visit

The HQ of GW

Well that’s my vacation over for another year but oh boy was it a good one.  I was lucky enough to visit Warhammer World in Nottingham with my family for a day and I was like a kid in a candy store I didn’t know where to look as there was so much to take in.  But lets start at the beginning. We arrived after a 2 hour drive so first port of call was Bugmans Bar for a coffee break. Even this was a treat as the bar is done up like a dwarven feast hall complete with huge fireplace which has an anvil on top of it.

Dark Angels Week 5

This entry is part 5 of 7 in the series Creating a Dark Angels Army
Dark Angels Predator

Predator advancing

Well thats another week gone by and its been more difficult than I imagined it would be. Reason being was this weeks target was to paint a predator tank and thought well its only one model and its bigger so should be easier to do. Forgot that highlighting a tank and getting it to look just so is probably a lot harder than doing the marines themselves as it is mostly big flat surfaces which quite often end up just looking bland.

Dark Angels: Week 4

This entry is part 4 of 7 in the series Creating a Dark Angels Army
Dark Angels: Scouts

Scouts

Well this has been a busy week but I still managed to get my scouts painted up so am very happy with the overall progress I am making.  I also got my new copy of 40k ordered and managed to get one of the collectors edition which will sit nicely beside my collectors edition of Warhammer.  But back to the army. As it stands just now I have one tactical squad, one scout squad and an assault squad.  I need to start thinking about the overall shape I want the army to take and also with the possible new Dark Angels codex looming I have to think about keeping things flexible so that they fit in hopefully.  With this in mind I have decided to repaint one of my old Predators and to assemble and build a new Razorback so that I can mobilize the army if needed.

April Assault 40K Tournament – Kamui’s Review

April Assault TournamentHello all,

I attended the April Assault at Crossroad Games in Standish, Maine on Saturday.  It was a hobby focused event with heavy emphasis on soft scores.  I figured I’d post my impressions of the day as a review for those of you who are interested and feedback for those who hosted the event.  For those of you who would like to see the details of the event you can download the event packet here.

Kamui’s Workbench: A Tale of Two Speeders continued

We can buff that out...

Hello all,

A few weeks back I picked up a couple of land speeders to add some mobility to my Reavers (Space Wolves.)  I got them cheap on eBay but they were in need of some repairs.  For those of you who haven’t seen them (and those of you who have a memory like mine and have forgotten,) you can see how they started here and how the repairs went here.

I’ve since finished the builds and have begun painting them.  I want to field them as Typhoons for the April Assault this weekend so I built some Typhoon Missile Launchers for them using styrene sheet.  While I’m posting WIP shots I thought I’d include a mini-tutorial for them.

Community Pimp’n: First of 2012

I’m going to change the format of this around a bit and combine the Weekly Wrap-up into this. Really the only reason they were separate was it gave me another easy article to put up. It just makes more sense to combine things.

Kamui’s Summer Challenge: Reavers progress

I’ve been working on shoehorning my old marine collection into a usable Space Wolves army.  As you can see my old collection is somewhat eclectic.

Weekly Wrap-up: A Busy Few Weeks

Christmas interfered with putting one of these up last week. Let’s see, a new author started here, EvantheNoob, and you can read his intro and say hi over here. He’ll be getting up some articles in the near future so keep an eye out.

That Time of Year

Just a heads up that my posting schedule will be erratic at best through the holiday season. I haven’t had time to line up any future articles and I’ll either be gone or tied up (maybe literally), this week through the weekend. I still have shopping to do. I’ve got four more days, I’m good!

Life, Why Must You Interfere With 40K?

As the lack of articles has surely indicated, I’ve been busy. Work is non-stop and life outside of work has been full of various activities and events. My brain has become fried and ideas for articles are fleeting or non-existent. I’d hate to put up half-assed articles as filler until such a time as some idea strikes me, so for now things will remain quiet.

Blog: Slow and Steady

I was just checking the site stats, as I routinely do since I’m a bit of a stat whore, and saw that October was the busiest month for the site. Every month has slowly but surely been gaining more traffic, as well as a few new “followers” via-Google. So, I wanted to say thanks to those who take a few minutes a day to check out what’s going on here. There’s a ton of really great blogs out there and the fact that anyone stops by here is amazing to me.

My Posting Schedule

For a few weeks my posting abilities will be greatly reduced. I’ve got a few really large projects at work that require a lot of attention and leave me little time to get posts out. I usually get to work early and work on articles to try and deliver one a day but right now getting to work early is resulting is starting work early.

Command Center: Beta Testers Guide

Command CenterSince my last post got a great response and there’s more testers, I thought I’d put together a quick little guide on the program.
