August Tournament Results

Crossroad Games, the LGS I play at, was having a store anniversary this weekend with lots of stuff going on and one event was a 1,750 tournament for 40K. There was no entry fee and my plans allowed for me to attend so I headed down there yesterday.

Last minute change of plans means I’m able to attend the LGS anniversary 40K tournament. Heading down to the shop shortly to attend some festivities and get in some practice for tomorrow. I’m going to try and get a tournament wrap up posted on Monday.

Imperium vs Xenos Campaign Concludes

In hindsight I should have been posting about this as we were doing it, ah well. At the LGS over the past five weeks we’ve been doing a campaign that was the Imperium vs Xenos. Each week we’d have a scenario created by Dave, employee at the shop, and battle it out to gain points for our side. Our missions ranged from 2,250 games to Kill Team. The entire campaign was a blast and last night we wrapped up in brutal fashion.

July’s 1,850 Tournament Results

Another long and mentally tiring game of moving plastic models around a table and rolling dice. I didn’t fair poorly but I did not win the tournament and did not win any consolation prizes either, IE: best army, best sport and…there was another one. For the day I went 2-1, getting a massacre win, a minor loss and then a major win. Here’s the quick and dirty, oh and I was playing my Ork list that I mentioned here:

Gamers Just Wanna Have Fun

What constitutes fun inevitably varies player to player but the the truth is that when we play we do want to have fun, well unless you’re a masochist. It’s easy to get caught up in the competitive nature of things. Be that besting your favorite enemy or winning a tournament. Some times you just need to step back and relax. It’s just a game, albeit a game we all obsess about beyond what probably passes for healthy, but a game none-the-less.

Upcoming July Tournament

Not counting the recent 3-week tournament we held this month, I have not done a tournament since March. In the five tournaments I’ve done I have only fielded my Space Marines once. We are scored on painting and my Orks are fully painted so I’ve used them the most because I can assemble a list without worrying about what is and is not painted. The one time I did field my Marines I fielded only what was painted and the result was less than desired. That was the one time I went 0-3 for the day.

I’ve noticed over this past month that I’ve had a lot of viewers finding this site from the Crossroad’s forums. So first off, welcome and hopefully you haven’t found the mean things I’ve said about you all on the site. Just kidding…I think. Secondly, if any of you are potentially interested in contributing to this site with 40K articles then let me know. The articles would be posted by you and so you’ll get full credit for your contributions.

Week #3 – June’s Tournament

Last night was the final night for the ongoing tournament. I’m not feeling up to writing a narrative battle report so here’s the breakdown. I played two games last night. My first game was against the best Ork player at the shop, also one of the best players at the shop period. So good in fact that he’s going to ‘ard Boyz Nationals. My list was:

Week #2 – June’s Tournament

I played the second game last night of the ongoing tournament. My opponent was a Marine player, another person just getting back into the game. The mission involved six objectives, of which only three were real objectives. On turn 2, 4 and 6 you had to roll to see which objectives were legit. To get a massacre you had to have more kill points and hold more objectives and deployment was dawn of war. The mission was supposed to be night fighting the entire game but we completely forgot about it.

Feeling the urge to write up some form of battle report for the first game in the three week tournament, I wrote a narrative report that I’ve put under Stories titled My Battlewagon! I enjoy creative writing and want to get into it more so I thought this was a good way to get warmed up. Enjoy!

June’s 1,500 Tournament

Crossroad Games is holding a 1,500 tournament this month but it’s being done differently than usual. The store is hosting the semis for ‘ard Boyz this month and wouldn’t be able to also host the normal monthly tournament. So what they’ve decided to do is hold the normal tournament over a three week period on the normal 40K gaming night. You have to stick with your army but can change your list each week. Everything else is normal, army comp scores, painting scores, etc.

Fate’s Angels Squeek Out a Win

With ‘ard Boyz being next month everyone at the shop is getting ready for it, well except for a few of us. So, I’ve been showing up with 2,500 point lists to play against those who are going to enter. Last night I got to play Brian, an Ultramarine player, who wanted to play test a list of his. His list was:

March’s Team Tournament Report

First let me say that the team tournament was one of the funnest tournaments I’ve done. Having four players on a table just adds a whole new dynamic to the game and the mood at the tables was light and fun.

Tournament Practice

Last night we managed to get in a practice team game for the upcoming tournament. We rolled for random partners and I got Jeremy, an Ork player. We faced off against Dave who was fielding his Witch Hunters and Big Nate who was playing Space Wolves. The short of it is that Jeremy and I took a major win. We played an old ‘ard Boyz mission, Drawn and Quartered, where you deploy using Spearhead and place an objective in the two quarters not deployed in. I moved a unit of Warriors with Lord and Immortals to the closer objective to secure it. I left my Destroyers hanging back and a unit of Warriors to back up an Ork unit of Shoota Boyz that were playing mid-field support. The Orks were able to blow through the two units of podded Grey Hunters to secure one objective and I walked to the other where I was able to stand my ground and unleash lots of gauss fire. In the end they managed to contest the objective I was holding with one Sister who refused to die but the Orks held theirs securely. The only thing left of their army at the end was that one Sister, 5-6 Long Fangs with a Rune Priest attached.
