April Tournament: Which Army…
Next month my FLGS is hosting a large tournament with 34 players. It’s a hobby oriented event and so scores for comp, painting and sportsmanship will be given. I’m trying to decide which army to bring. I’m debating between two.

The Standish Standoff: Tournament Wrap-up
After months of preparing for it it’s almost sad to see it go. My FLGS, Crossroad Games, hosted its first ever annual large 40K tournament on Saturday. It was a 30 person event with three rounds using soft scores, which is uncommon for us. Our monthly events are straight battle points but this new annual event we wanted to create a more friendly and hobby oriented event. Many of us spent the past four months getting ready for it. Tables had to be built, more terrain created, old tables and terrain repaired, etc. It’s been a long road but the payoff was well worth it.

Quick Report: New Necrons and Tournament Prep
On Wednesday I got to face off against the new Necrons. I brought my 1,850 Marine list I’m using for this Saturday’s tournament. No offense to my opponent, who I know reads my blog, but there’s not a ton to report from the game itself. I threw Terminators with an attached Librarian and Cassius at him, ate some Warriors and a Lord, then got stuck into a damn near endless combat by a counter-charge from Oberon (I spell that right?), and Lychguard. With both our assault units tied up I just went about shooting the hell out of him and when the game ended on turn 7 he was tabled.

Quick Report: More Standoff Practice
After another night of working on terrain as we prepare for The Standish Standoff, I got in a practice game for the event. Last week I also got in a practice game but I decided to completely overhaul my list. My previous list was more assault oriented, utilizing Fate Lord Monthu (aka: Shrike), and the list I brought last night was a much more balanced list. As with last week I’m not giving out my list. I’d hate for all the players at my FLGS to decide to build lists to counter mine ;)

Quick Report: Standoff Practice
My FLGS is hosting a large 30-person tournament on Nov. 12th called The Standish Standoff. In short it’s a more hobby oriented tournament where our monthly ones are not. As such, I’m working out some lists for my Space Marines that capitalize on what I have painted to avoid the last-minute rush of needing to get things done. Tournaments are a motivator for painting but at the same time I don’t want to do rush jobs on my army either.

Battle Report: FLGS October Tournament
This month my FLGS ran a 2K tournament. Normally in our tournaments we put all the entry fees into the prize pool but this month it was a benefit for a store regular who was diagnosed with cancer. Originally it was to be 75% to the benefit and 25% to the players but GW decided to do prize support for us allowing us to give 100% to this gentleman, which is awesome. The downside is that it would seem a fair amount of people didn’t want to bother thinking the prize pool was insubstantial and we had one of our worst showings ever. It’s sad really. I guess some people care more about the prize support than they do playing some games for fun and benefiting a man with a life threatening illness.

Monthly Tournament Report: Playing for Fun
This past weekend the LGS hosted its normal monthly tournament. This month it was 1,850 and as a test run for the event we’re hosting in November we also incorporated sportsmanship scoring and painting scoring. As a result I opted to bring my Space Marines but I wanted to do something different and field a more ‘fun’ list. Here’s the list I brought: http://cmdctr.net/lists/472

A Bit of a Break and Changing Gears
With ‘ard Boyz over, and not having qualified for regionals, it’s time to set aside my Marines for a while and focus on my Chaos army. For the past eight months I’ve played the hell out of my Marines and though I’m far from bored with them, rather the beauty of Marines if you ask me, I want to get my Chaos army on its feet.

Battle Report: ‘ard Boyz Practice
I managed my second practice game for ‘ard Boyz last night at my FLGS. As nice as it would have been to have gotten in more practice games, especially since this list is completely revised from my last, I’m not going to sweat it.

Road to Glory Campaign: Conclusion
Last week I didn’t get up a Road to Glory report but it was a thorough spanking and wasn’t a ton to go over. I was tabled by turn five by a great Tyranid player. That made this Wednesday night the final game and the way the campaign works it was the game that decided it all. Despite being thrashed consistently every week, the Imperium could still win the campaign.

Crossroad Games 40K July Tournament Report
This month was a 2K tournament at my FLGS and we were trying something new. We’ve been using a scoring system with massacre, major, minor and draw and opted to try a multiple objective format with primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. It’s a system I’ve seen used at a lot of other places and one some of us tried at an out of town tournament we attended and liked. The idea is to allow someone to always have the ability to score something and to allow for players with a bad game, as in they didn’t score a massacre, to still be able to stay in contention. I rewrote three of my mission to use the format and we ran with those.

Lessons Learned: Campaign Report Week #3
Continuing into week #3 for the campaign at the LGS I was paired off against a Chaos Marine player. The game was seize ground with pitched battle deployment and a few catches. First, terrain features were nominated as objectives. Second, as the defender (the Imperial side having lost last week), I had to deploy my entire army first and then the attacker got to decide if he wanted first or second turn.

Road to Glory Campaign – Week #2 Report
As we continue the summer campaign we move into week #2. Another incredible showing at the LGS too with 22 players. We rarely reach that many for monthly tournaments.

Road to Glory Campaign: Week #1 Report
I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, well, those in the US anyway. Of course, hopefully everyone else had a great weekend too. My wife and I went on a mini-vacation and just got back last night. Now it’s back to the grind.

Weekly Battle: Fate’s Angels vs Team Edward
Wednesday night I got in a game against Blood Angels, an army I routinely have problems dealing with effectively. We ran a 2,500 game to try to work out some ‘ard Boyz ideas. Here’s the list I put together.
