Mission: King of the Hill v4.0b (Revised)

I’m tweaking this from the first beta version because I feel the primary and secondary objective were too similar. Plus, the secondary objective now ‘fits’ the mission theme.

I’m updating another mission to use the new format we’re trying at the LGS.

Mission: Target Priority v2.0b

For July’s tournament at the LGS we’re changing up the scoring format. We’ve been doing a massacre, major, minor, draw system and are looking to change it up to a primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary system. Our current system is more about how thoroughly you beat someone where what we want to try should offer closer matches that are more fun. So, instead of writing new missions from the ground up, which I’m sure I’ll do at some point, I wanted to revise existing ones into the new format.

Mission: Defensive Onslaught v1.0 (Updated)

In my continuing efforts to create more tournament missions for my FLGS I’ve written this new one. I’m sticking with keeping things simple but different enough that it should be interesting.

Weekly Wrap-up: Tournament Preperation

Last weekend I was gone and didn’t have the chance to get a wrap-up posted. So, this is what’s been going on here since the last one.

Mission: King of the Hill v3.0

As I did with Attack and Defend, I’m updating this mission to remove the game turn point conditions and adding end of game win conditions.

Weekly Wrap-up: Tournment Bound

Wednesday night I got in a game against a good Ork player using my Marines. We play tested my mission Special Ops and had a good time with it. Hopefully next week I’ll get to play test Battlefield Superiority.

Battle Report and Special Ops Play Testing

Last night Fate’s Angels squared off against some Orks. I was happy to get the chance to try my hand at the greenskins with my Marines. I’ve been playing a lot of other Marines lately and wanted to see how my list would fair against something more numbers heavy. It was also my first chance to play test the Special Ops mission I wrote a few weeks back.

Weekly Wrap-up: Always Something to Work on

I’ve finally, I think, completed the tournament software I had been creating for use the Crossroad Games. It’s pretty simple really. You add your players and create matches. It has a random match pairing feature and a point based match pairing feature to easily set up matches with a single click. It tracks the points for each match and runs a total for each player so at the end of the day it’s all there, no messing around. It also tracks paint scores and sportsmanship if being used. The cool part, as a player, is it’s all publicly accessible so you can see how you did for any tournament that was entered into the system. This software should save us a lot of time at the tournaments and get us rolling and out of there sooner.

Mission: Special Ops v1.0b

This particular mission idea I’ve been tossing around for a while. I like the idea of both players trying to accomplish something different while preventing the other from accomplishing their mission. I feel it creates a very interesting dynamic that should keep both players on their toes. That being said, since I’m writing this for tournament play at the LGS I want to try and keep it fair and as balanced as possible. A mission like this we’d probably use for round one at a tournament, not later rounds.

Mission: Battlefield Superiority (Updated)

I have been wanting to create a new mission for a while and finally got around to it. I’ve written a bunch of other missions that we use at the LGS for tournaments and campaigns. This one is to add to that library so we can keep rotating missions around. The aim is to keep it simple as they seem to most well received, especially at tournaments. I like using a scaling point method to determine the victory threshold. This allows people who only get in 2-3 turns to still be capable of scoring massacres. Putting a hard point limit difference makes that near impossible, as well as it’s hard to find the right values without getting a lot of sample data.

Mission: Recovery v1.02

The final mission we played in the tournament also needs some minor adjustments. Of all the missions this one seemed to play out pretty well with two massacres, one major, three minors and one draw. It was also the last mission, so pairings should have been spot on.
