Since I wasn’t able to participate in ‘Ard Boyz today, and those who did are probably not going to post anything tonight, I thought I’d toss up a few close-ups of the Grey Hunters:
Last night I played two 1,850 games with Chaos. My first opponent was playing vanilla Marines with a Legion of the Damned army using Vulkan. He, at the recommendation of another player, was trying out Tigurius. He list featured three Drop Pods, two full of Tacts and one with Sternguard who were joined by Vulkan and Tigurius. He also had two full Legion squads. Naturally the entire list was melta heavy.
With ‘ard Boyz over, and not having qualified for regionals, it’s time to set aside my Marines for a while and focus on my Chaos army. For the past eight months I’ve played the hell out of my Marines and though I’m far from bored with them, rather the beauty of Marines if you ask me, I want to get my Chaos army on its feet.
Greetings all, Amberclad here.
It’s been a while since my last article, I have been slaving away (pun intended) with my dark eldar for the last three months. But I’ll talk about them another time. Today I want to talk about ‘Ard Boyz and my experience this past weekend.

Ok, so the summer is slipping away and I’m far from finished with my army. The Bjorn conversion took a lot more time than I’d expected. The good news is that I’ve finished the modelling I need to field my list, and the paint scheme I’ve chosen lends itself well to batch painting. I have one full squad of Grey Hunters finished and a bunch more underway.
Below are some pictures of the first squad finished, 10 Grey Hunters with 2 Plasma Guns, one Mark of the Wulfen, and one Wolf Standard:
I managed my second practice game for ‘ard Boyz last night at my FLGS. As nice as it would have been to have gotten in more practice games, especially since this list is completely revised from my last, I’m not going to sweat it.
Raemos, my counts-as-Bjorn conversion, has taken a little longer than I had hoped, putting me about a week behind on the rest of the army. The good news is that I’m happy with the way the model is coming together so I think it’s been worth the delay:
Last week I didn’t get up a Road to Glory report but it was a thorough spanking and wasn’t a ton to go over. I was tabled by turn five by a great Tyranid player. That made this Wednesday night the final game and the way the campaign works it was the game that decided it all. Despite being thrashed consistently every week, the Imperium could still win the campaign.
Imperial records contain very little about the Black Wolf Space Marines. What is known is that they were once a Great Company of the Space Wolves. The Black Wolf Lord, whose name is not indicated in the archives, was rewarded for heroic service in battle with command over Herjolfsnes. A recently rediscovered planet on the southern fringe of Space Wolf territory, scans of Herjolfsnes indicated a population of nomadic tribes and rich mineral resources. The entire company set off on a crusade to claim this jewel for the Space Wolves. Early transmissions from Herjolfsnes indicated that successful contact had been made with the natives and that construction of a planetary defense base had begun. Several months after the landing all transmissions fell silent. In time, scouting ships were sent to investigate but no sign could be found of Herjolfsnes or the Black Wolves. Although it is possible that the Sagas of the Space Wolves contain more information about the Black Wolves and their fate Imperial inquisitions into the matter have met with nothing more than veiled references to the Black Stone.
This month was a 2K tournament at my FLGS and we were trying something new. We’ve been using a scoring system with massacre, major, minor and draw and opted to try a multiple objective format with primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. It’s a system I’ve seen used at a lot of other places and one some of us tried at an out of town tournament we attended and liked. The idea is to allow someone to always have the ability to score something and to allow for players with a bad game, as in they didn’t score a massacre, to still be able to stay in contention. I rewrote three of my mission to use the format and we ran with those.
In my last post I included pictures of the pilot for my counts-as-Bjorn dreadnought, Raemos Sun-fist. This model is based on an AOBR dread but I wanted something more distinctive for something that represents a Bjorn equivalent so I decided to replace the front of the model with the gunner cockpit from an Eldar Falcon and make the pilot visible. This is the result so far:
Continuing into week #3 for the campaign at the LGS I was paired off against a Chaos Marine player. The game was seize ground with pitched battle deployment and a few catches. First, terrain features were nominated as objectives. Second, as the defender (the Imperial side having lost last week), I had to deploy my entire army first and then the attacker got to decide if he wanted first or second turn.
I’ve been working on shoehorning my old marine collection into a usable Space Wolves army. As you can see my old collection is somewhat eclectic.
As we continue the summer campaign we move into week #2. Another incredible showing at the LGS too with 22 players. We rarely reach that many for monthly tournaments.
I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, well, those in the US anyway. Of course, hopefully everyone else had a great weekend too. My wife and I went on a mini-vacation and just got back last night. Now it’s back to the grind.
