Kamui’s Summer Challenge: Reavers progress

I’ve been working on shoehorning my old marine collection into a usable Space Wolves army.  As you can see my old collection is somewhat eclectic.

Kamui’s Summer Challenge 2011: Introduction

For a long time now I’ve been forming the vision of my marines reborn.  I’ve been tweaking my fluff to match with current canon and gathering some of the models I wanted to include.  It looks like I’m going to have some extra modeling time during July and August so I’ve decided to set a goal of a completely painted 2000 point army by the end of summer.  For your entertainment, and for my own motivation, I’ll be posting my progress here.

June’s Team Tournament Conclusion

TournamentThe team tournaments at the LGS are probably the most looked forward to events we have. It’s generally 1,000 to 1,250 per-player so beginners can generally make the points and having a partner always lends a different atmosphere to the games. This past Saturday was no exception for turnout with 20 players in attendance.

Weekly Battle: Another Team Game

Battle: WraithlordAt the LGS we seem to be slowly migrating away from every week playing practice games for the upcoming monthly tournaments, which is good. I’m all for practice but doing the same thing week in and week out gets old.

Weekly Battle Report: Big Team Game

Battle Report - TeamworkLast night at the LGS we held a bitz trade, got some cool stuff I needed, but it also resulted in a larger than usual turnout. There were four of us not gaming and one table, so we threw down a 4K per-side team game. I paired off with a Space Wolf player against Dark Eldar and Tau. I knew it would prove interesting as me and my teammate had a heavy assault force against an assault army paired with a shooty army. If they could work together well it would be rough for us. Here’s the battle report.

Battle Report: 1,750 FLGS Tournament

Battle Report - Crazy BabyThis past Saturday was the the monthly tournament at my FLGS. As the title states, it was 1,750 and we had a great showing of 17 players. Dave, who works there, plays when we have odd numbers so we had nine games going on for the day. I’ll dive right in and try and keep this short since I’m not a fan of a long-winded battle report and I imagine others share that sentiment.

Campaign Report: Second Week – Team Game

Campaign MysticHaving played our mega-battle the other week and teams now set, last night we played a team game for the campaign. Each team determined the players on their side who would pair up and then who they played was determined randomly. My Orks paired off with a Necron player (who normally plays Space Wolves), and we faced a Tyranid and Blood Angel army. The other game was Daemons and Space Wolves (my team), against Imperial Guard and Necrons (other team).

Quick Report: January Team Tournament

Tournament: Bad DaySaturday was the monthly tournament at the LGS. This month was a random partner team tournament: 1,250 per-player with 1 HQ, 0-1 Elites, 1-3 Troops, 0-1 Fast Attack and 0-1 Heavy Support with the ability to double up one 0-1 slot. We had a pretty good showing with 10 teams (20 players), and I was paired up with a Tyranid player who I’m acquainted with, a co-worker of Kamui. I’d run through his list but I’m still terrible at remembering Nid unit names. I had my Necrons and ran this list here.

The Road to Da ‘Ard Boyz 2011: EvantheNoob’s Take

Sorry everyone, I’ve been very busy with my job as of late and have let the blog fall to the wayside while I proved I deserved my paycheck. I hope everyone had happy and safe holidays, and that all the bad decisions made on new year’s eve only resulted in hangovers the next day.

Quick Report: Another Team Tournament Practice

Last night we got in another practice game for the upcoming team tournament at Crossroad Games. The tournament will be 1,250 per-player and has a restricted forge organization: 1 HQ, 0-1 Elites, 1-3 Troops, 0-1 Fast Attack, 0-1 Heavy Support. You can double up one of the 0-1 slots. Oh, and it’s random partners.

Weekly Wrap-up: Beer!

I’d love to say I got a lot accomplished last week and this weekend but that’s just not true. You see, Saturday was the Maine Brew Fest in Portland and like any craft beer lover I attended. I went along with Kamui and seven others to drown ourselves in some great local brews. If anyone is in the area I highly recommend Sebago Brewing Company’s bourbon barrel cask aged barley wine. It hurts so good.

October Tournament Report

Tournament: So CloseYesterday at the LGS we played an 1,850 tournament. A few months ago I began advocating we remove army composition and this month was our first without it. At the end of the day we were asked what we thought and nobody noticed a difference, that army composition wasn’t in place. That’s the appropriate answer in my opinion.

September Team Tournament Wrap-up

Tournament: Sad PandaThis was the second team tournament I’ve done and like the last time I had a good time. It’s nice to have someone to confer with and discuss strategy as you play. Of course there’s the interesting pairings that occur too that make for fun games.

July’s 1,850 Tournament Results

TournamentAnother long and mentally tiring game of moving plastic models around a table and rolling dice. I didn’t fair poorly but I did not win the tournament and did not win any consolation prizes either, IE: best army, best sport and…there was another one. For the day I went 2-1, getting a massacre win, a minor loss and then a major win. Here’s the quick and dirty, oh and I was playing my Ork list that I mentioned here:

Tournament Practice

Last night we managed to get in a practice team game for the upcoming tournament. We rolled for random partners and I got Jeremy, an Ork player. We faced off against Dave who was fielding his Witch Hunters and Big Nate who was playing Space Wolves. The short of it is that Jeremy and I took a major win. We played an old ‘ard Boyz mission, Drawn and Quartered, where you deploy using Spearhead and place an objective in the two quarters not deployed in. I moved a unit of Warriors with Lord and Immortals to the closer objective to secure it. I left my Destroyers hanging back and a unit of Warriors to back up an Ork unit of Shoota Boyz that were playing mid-field support. The Orks were able to blow through the two units of podded Grey Hunters to secure one objective and I walked to the other where I was able to stand my ground and unleash lots of gauss fire. In the end they managed to contest the objective I was holding with one Sister who refused to die but the Orks held theirs securely. The only thing left of their army at the end was that one Sister, 5-6 Long Fangs with a Rune Priest attached.
