Thor’s Workbench: Chaos Maulerfiend (PIP #2)

Work is slowly progressing on my Maulerfiend. Not much of an update from the last other than getting the fiery glow effect in place on the stomach and smoke stacks. Actually, considering the time it took to get that glow effect in place (don’t ask), it is a big update.

I’m happy with how the glow on his stomach came out. I know it’s not the easiest to see in these shots but I wanted to get pics as he’ll be seen on the table. I’m pretty happy with the glow on the smoke stack faces but they didn’t quite come out the way I envisioned. It was a lot more difficult to work the glow there because of the mouth depth. Still, I’m not displeased with it and it was something to learn from for the next time.

All the hard stuff is now done on the body and next up is moving on to getting the highlights on there.

I began playing Warhammer 40K in 2006, and have been an avid player and hobbyist since then. I have also been blogging about 40K for almost as long as I've been playing it, having started Creative Twilight in 2009.

Wow! That hellish glow is amazing. Nice work!

  • The faces look great! It looks like they are heated to red hot by the exhaust flowing through them.

    • Thanks. It was a ton of work getting the glow effects on there but it’s definitely going to make the model stand out.
