Chronicles of Thor #4: Back on the Hobby Horse and Forging Ahead

The last chronicle I did wasn’t an uplifting one. My father had just passed away and I was dealing with a lot.

Well, since then things have settled down. I still have a lot left to do regarding my father’s affairs, but the breakneck pace I was running at for 2-weeks straight is over.

I guess you could say that things are settling into a new normal.

Twitter Giveaway Contest

For weeks I had not touched a model. The motivation to paint wasn’t there, plus I had nothing to work on. Since getting into Warhammer Underworlds, my paint queue had dwindled drastically, which I love. I hate backlogs.

Anyway, after wrapping up my Thorns of the Briar Queen, and the Warhammer Underworlds terrain I built, I was left with nothing on deck to work on.

This led me to thinking about working on some NMM (non metallic metal). I have always admired painters who can pull off NMM. It’s just a cool and stylistic approach to metal.

I also feel that the technique gives the painter a bit more control over a more typical TMM (true metallic metal) approach.

So, I wanted to finally try my hand at it and I needed a model. Enter Efreeti Emir, a Reaper Miniatures model that I’ve had for years.

I picked this model up to serve as a foot Herald of Khorne for my Daemons army, but that never came to fruition. So, I figured he would serve as my NMM test, and also to serve as a prize.

I’ll have more details later, but on Twitter we have reached over 1,000 followers. I thought it would be fun to do a contest on Twitter to win this model once I’m done.

Meanwhile, here’s the latest shots I took of Efreeti.

You can see my NMM work on the sword and the bronze armor.

Overall I’m happy with it. I know none of it is perfect, but I also know that I can’t spend an endless amount of time perfecting NMM on my first attempt at it.

I have to accept that this model is a learning experience, and I’m better served trying my best, learning, and moving on to the next project.

Hopefully I’ll wrap up Efreeti in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Blood Bowl – Undead

I had totally forgotten that this team was coming out until last week at my FLGS. I had briefly seen mention of it prior, but I didn’t really look over the team that thoroughly. After seeing them in the White Dwarf, however, I realized I had to buy them.

Undead for Blood Bowl

I can’t tell you how cool I think the Mummies on the team look. Actually, it’s the same model for both on the team, which stinks, but the sculpt is awesome, so I’m OK with it. That hulking, menacing charging Mummy is just awesome.

Mummies aside, I think the team as a whole is amazing looking. This is seriously my favorite team in terms of sculpting that GW has done for Blood Bowl.

So, the Undead is my next project and I’m excited to work on them. I’m also anxious to try them out in our next season at my FLGS.

I have always done well with all the Undead teams in Blood Bowl (Khemri, Necromantic, and Undead), and enjoyed playing them, so this will be a nice break from my Human team, the Titan Bay Thunderhawks.

If you want to see the Undead team all painted up then check that out.

What are you all working on lately? Anything fun?

Maybe not perfect, but that Efreet is pretty awesome looking. Especially for your first try at NMM.
