Painting Showcase: Blood Bowl Human Catcher

This catcher is the first hire to the starting roster of my Human team. My team has had a bit of a slow start, so I was glad when I had the treasury to finally pick up a catcher.

Not a lot to say about the model. He’s painted the same as the rest of my team. I am pretty happy with the skin though. This is the third model I’ve painted with dark skin, and I finally feel like I’m getting the right idea with it.

  • He looks great just as the other ones you’ve shown. I think that the team will look fantastic together.

    • Thanks.

I’m pushing to get the team done, so I can get a nice group shot.

  • He looks really good. I like the armour shading, and the skin looks excellent too

    • Thanks.

Some times I think I do my blending/shading too subtle. If you noticed it then I guess that’s a good thing ;)

  • Nice job as always! You’ve worked out a very nice formula for dark skin and the blending is spot on.

    • Thanks.

Each person I paint I do the skin differently, so it’s more realistic. I didn’t want to assembly line the team, so I’m having fun working out various skin tones. I figure it’s my chance to experiment since I there’s so little skin to be painted (non-daemonic) for my CSM.

  • Nice! I’m still trying to find somewhere local with a league, and consoling myself with the tablet version for the moment.

    • Blood Bowl is still pretty niche, so not the easiest game to find people for sadly. The thing is that it’s a great game, and people love it once they try it. The trick is getting people to try it.

      • It’s frustrating, because I’m on a regional GW forum, and it’s huge down in Portland, with multiple leagues going and lots of talk on the boards. But I’m stuck kind of out in the boonies, GW-wise, with the three most accessible stores all being about 2 hours away, and those leagues in Portland like 5-6 hours away, if I had a car.

        • Man, that sucks. I’m fortunate to be in an area with 3 stores all within a 20 minute drive.

I assume you’re talking Portland, Oregon? I ask because I live in Portland, Maine :)

          • Yeah, I miss living in Bellingham and Olympia. I’m a ways outside of Seattle, so yeah, Portland, OR. I actually had a vague recollection after I hit “post” on that that you lived in or near Portland ME ;)

  • Great skin tone here Thor. You have definitely nailed it!

    • Much appreciated!

  • Wow, you really have taken to these BB guys well. Really can see the focussed work on such a small unit. Well played.

    • It’s just nice to be able to spend time painting up one model at a time. There’s just too much to work on with 40K to spend so much time on a single model, other than my HQs. So, it’s great to step back and just have fun with something.
