6th Edition: Taking it all in

SpongeIt’s great to see the blogs lighting up with the release of 6th edition. Everyone is discussing rules implications, new strategies and tactics, everything and it’s awesome. For a while things were stagnant with 5th edition, it had lived its life and worthwhile topics were hard to come by.

I’m still reading the rules and absorbing everything. I’ve already read through the rules once completely and am now on my second pass through. This Wednesday I’ll finally get in a game and I can’t wait. I haven’t been this excited about 40K in a long time and I’ve always loved the game. So much has changed that until I get in a handful of games I don’t feel completely comfortable discussing 6th edition as it would be full of assumptions and what-ifs.

For the moment I’m also holding off on figuring out what direction my armies will take. I have ideas but again, until I see it played out on the table I can’t be sure of anything. I’m a patient person and I want to make sure that any changes I devise are worthwhile. My pockets are not infinitely deep and so I suspect a fair amount of reasonable proxies in the foreseeable future to avoid regretful purchases.

I do have a lot of catching up to do on reading my fellow bloggers’ articles as well. I was away on vacation the past five days and with the explosion of the blogosphere on 6th edition, it’s going to take a while to get back up to speed. I look forward to it though. There’s always some great insightful things to be learned and I’m absorbing it all.

I began playing Warhammer 40K in 2006, and have been an avid player and hobbyist since then. I have also been blogging about 40K for almost as long as I've been playing it, having started Creative Twilight in 2009.

What’s your impression of the rules as a body? You’ve read them through from start to finish, do they seem coherent and well thought?

    • I feel they’re well thought out and clear. There were only a few areas that I had to re-read to make sure I understood what was being said and that was really more the result of the drastic changes from 5th, like the wound allocation. It’s not that I found it confusing, just different.

I also feel they addressed a fair amount of issues from 5th edition. Can’t think of an example off the top of my head but I know a few times I read explicitly clear disclaimers on areas that could have been shady or were shady in 5th. It feels like they really thought this edition through.

That being said, I’m sure some actual games will bring to light some questions and areas of gray, it always does. Hopefully it’s minimal though and the intent of the rule will be clear in those situations.

  • If you guys decide that IG allies are the way to go and you need some more, be sure to drop me a line. I’ve got boxes and boxes of these guys that I want to get rid of, but I just haven’t bothered to post them anywhere.
Naturally, I’ll give you a better discount than you can get at normal retail stores. If you/your buddies are interested, drop me a line.

Is your email the same from when we got those daemons off you? My son in law is interested to see what you have and want to get rid of. If you have a list email it to me or put it up on your Blog under your Trading section.
