Karanak Painting Showcase (Chaos Daemons) for Warhammer 40K

I wrapped up my Karanak model this morning and I’m happy with how he came out. He was fully painted last week, but I had to do more basing with him, specifically ice, and that takes time to dry. Then I had to do a gloss sealer on the ice, yet more time to dry. You get the idea, the basing took a little bit.

Here he is. Oh, disregard the dust near the front of his base. I used him in a tournament last weekend and the base picked up some table dust. I didn’t catch it until after the pictures. Oh well.

    Thoughts

For the ice I picked up Vallejo’s Still Water. I mixed in a little white to get it cloudy and poured it on there. It took me two layers to build it up as the first layer was very thin.

As mentioned above, I did put a gloss sealer on it afterwards, but it’s hard to pick up the shine in these shots. I like the result and it’s far better than the ghetto method I was previously using for ice.

This, I feel, looks more realistic and it will also be easier for me to get consistent model to model.

I really like this model. It’s similar to the Chaos Warhounds I used for my Flesh Hounds while being different enough to stand out a bit. Reaper has some great alternatives, if you’re playing an army where you can work more fantasy oriented stuff in at least.

Again, I’m pleased with the results on this model. The skin is more subtle than I typically do but I like the end result.

Feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed.

This came out great! The ice looks good and you did a nice job blending the reaper base into the GW one. The blue tongue adds a nice little splash of color when viewed from the front.

It sounds like you’ll be able to create some very interesting effects with that stuff. Maybe you can post a tutorial/review on it some time.
