I had completed the Maulerfiend a few months ago now but finally got around to getting the Forgefiend parts painted.
Now that both versions are done, I figured I’d get some shots.
Oh, the Maulerfiend/Forgefiend is magnetized if you’re curious. That way I can swap between it being a Maulerfiend or a Forgefiend. What can I say? I like magnets and hate buying more models than I need.
I did take some shots of how I magnetized it too if you’re curious how I pulled it off.
You’ll have to pardon the flash. I couldn’t get lighting to work at all and the model is too big for my small light box. Still, the shots aren’t terrible.

Painting Thoughts
I’m glad to be done with this model. Like the Heldrake, it’s a model I like the look of but proved to be a chore to paint.
If I ever decide to run a second one, Maulerfiend or Forgefiend, I think I may opt to create something instead of using the actual model.
The painting here is standard work for my Chaos Marines.
I did have fun with the skin though. The skin was base coated with white and then washed with black and then a crimson wash to give it the tone you see.
I thought that crimsony color looked great against the black and blue of the armor. It can be tricky to find a color that works against the two-tone armor sometimes.
The exhausts and chest vents were painted to give off a glow effect. Those areas were base coated with white. I then did progressive glazes of yellow to orange to create the glow look. The chest vents, which are hard to see, came out better than the exhausts I think.
Conclusion
Like I said, this was a chore to do and I hope to never paint another. As much as I love all the trim Chaos has, at least for the aesthetic, it gets old painting it on so many models.
Still, I’m happy with how this came out!

Looks awesome as usual, my friend :)
Are they any good this edition? I wasn’t a fan last edition, though I know my friend got some use out of them. Is there anything in the new rules that make them better somehow aside from slightly more survivable due to the modified vehicle damage charts?
Thanks.
I’ve always liked them so I use them. The vehicle chart is the only benefit they gained this edition; well, and the nerf to smash attacks. Overall I feel they are worth their points all things considered. The Maulerfiend definitely needs a buddy though as running solo doesn’t work out very well.
I have to agree, great models and magnetizing. After the JuggerLord, the Maulerfiend has always been my favorite Chaos model. Now with 7th giving vehicles some love they are absolutely worth the points. Running two is great, but 3 is even better.
Thanks.
I really do need to get a second Maulerfiend. I really think it’s a great choice, even if competing in a very saturated slot. That’s why I’d have a hard time doing three; I love me some Obliterators.
Looks great, Thor! It’s too bad you’re not willing to paint another, a pair of these would look sweet!
Who knows. At some point I may say screw it and do another. It’s just right now I have so many smaller projects to get done that another big one, like this model, isn’t something I’m looking forward to.
very awesome paint job!
Much appreciated!
It was a chore to paint but I’m happy with how it came out.
